Nicki Harrison starts new Travel Counsellors venture

New travel venture takes off

GUERNSEY woman, Nicki Harrison, has set up a local travel service and joined the national Travel Counsellors franchise, a unique network of more than 1500 experienced travel professionals and 250 support staff in the UK.

With almost ten years’ travel experience, Nicki is now part of one of the UK’s most trusted travel organisations, providing a personal service for people booking holidays and travel around the world.

Nicki Harrison says that the big step of becoming self-employed, while not quite 30, has been made easier by joining Travel Counsellors so that many of the challenges of running one’s own business are supported;

“We have a duty office for 24-hour alerts to worldwide as well as a back office system giving me access to a wide variety of holidays. They also set up my website – www.travelcounsellors.co.uk/nicki.harrison – to a standard a start up business could hardly have achieved alone. Being a Travel Counsellor means I can spend my time helping clients – even out of conventional office hours – create bespoke itineraries with care rather than being distracted with admin.”

Nicki believes that experienced and new travellers alike are increasingly switching away from direct booking as they recognise that a travel professional can find holiday extras and provide invaluable support for a myriad of glitches and the more serious problems that can easily ruin a trip.

Despite the general economic situation, it seems that travel – to ever more exciting locations – remains one of our most important indulgences, so Nicki believes her timing for setting up her own business is spot on.

“Being part of the franchise means I can independently research exclusive excursions and emerging locations while still giving good value for money. And with the bonus of the Travel Counsellors financial trust – which fully financially protects your booking and being ATOL bonded, I can give customers top quality care and build relationships to make the most of every trip they take.”

Guiding the tour guides

We are happy to help the Bailiwick of Guernsey Accredited Guides Training Scheme with training on presentations and their tour guiding.

The skills in being a tour guide, whether on foot on in a vehicle are varied as the guide needs great people skills as well as a library of information which they can convey in an entertaining and memorable way.

We have been involved in training on presentations for over 20 years during which time the props may bave become digital but the core human to human delivery skills have been constant.

And to end the 2015 Taste Guernsey season we had another great day at the Seafront Sunday 27 September. And I got to meet my new crush JC Novelli who was over for the food festival. Yummy!
